For a client to convey to me the particulars of their web page, here are some tips...
You do most of the designing yourself on a word processor, or perhaps just e-mail to me. Most ISP's allow uploading of files from you to me, attached to your e-mail. All I have to do is copy and paste your own ideas into the web code needed for the site. I use MS Word. Of course, Windows provides Word Pad too.
During time, I can change posted schedules, holiday closures, special events, special sales, new personnel or summer opening hours. I will confirm via e-mail back to you when the site is updated.
The client does not have to understand any of the underlying code and tags needed to make it all happen, that is what you are paying for and why I have studied this program for years.
Get familiar with how a page "calls" another page, or section in a page. The hyperlinks can show another page and the bookmarks on that page can cause the "place" at that bookmark to display first. Other hyperlinks can jump to other web pages.
Graphics and pictures are nice but do not go overboard with them, they cause the pages to load slower, as you have noticed when surfing the net.
The main idea is to allow other interested people to view your site and learn all about you and your staff, products and/or services. Name yourself and your personnel, so that potential customers may get to know you and them on a personal basis, something that is becoming too rare these business days.
Display phone numbers, fax numbers, e-mail, postal and physical addresses, as I did on my Home Page. These items save a customer unnecessary phone calls to you, possibly on your 800 number that will cost you money.
This is your opportunity to compress pages and pages about yourself and your company down to a simple web address, www.yourname.com, to be passed around simply. Millions of people are utilizing this now as you read this.
